Default Why hide license plate?

I see so many pics over the Internet with people hiding their license plates. What's the purpose? Any time you drive your car thousands see your plates so why hide them on the Internet?

If you're paranoid, and park your car outside ..... It does make it easy for someone to see a photo of something they like on your car, look up the plate info, and make a little unannounced "visit."

I know a guy who got his car stolen from his garage as a result of posting pics
of it on the net. I guess I'd rather not post my full mod list and my plate so some
douchebag can steal it. I highly doubt that would happen, but it's just a precautionary
thing. Also, I'd hate to post up some street racing kills and have a local cop stumble
upon my car/plate. It just doesn't seem to be a good idea letting someone identify
my exact car.
