Default Things they don't teach you in Drivers ed?

On a recent drive from Dallas to College Station, I noticed my bf flashing his lights at truckers after we passed speed traps. I noticed a lot of truckers acknowledged the signal with a friendly wave...It's something I've known about for a while know, but I was wondering exactly how common the knowledge is. Have yall ever heard of things like that, little curtesies that make long drives a little nicer? Like...
-Flashing your lights to warn of speed traps
-Flashing your lights to let a trucker know they have room in front of you
-Pulling onto the shoulder to allow passing (not something I do, but I appreciate it when others do...although it's pretty dangerous)
I was wondering if these are regional rules, or if it's a pretty widespread thing...I do know that Texas drivers are the friendliest of any state I've been to

Ya we do the same in california, and after some one lets us know it is clear to get over we usually turn the four ways on to thank them. Its a trucker thing that most real truckers all know. There is alot of little trucker things like that, I just dont do it to cars because chances are they would miss interpret it or something. Another way to tell them there are cops ahead with out a cb would be to give a peace sign, wich means peace officer ahead. Most truckers know exactly what it means.

they really can't teach the speed trap warnings in drivers ed.

Drivers education here is a joke compared to other countries. In germany it's much more money and much harder.
