Default 03/04 Cobra Motor in Fox Body?

You can put an LS1 in a Fox Body, why not throw an 03/04 Cobra motor in one? I love the Terminators and would love to have one, but having three sports cars would be overkill, so the idea struck me to get my 03/04 Cobra and keep my Fox too. I haven't seen or even heard of it being done, but I'm not up to date on Mustang stuff. Has it been done, and what is/would be involved in doing this swap?

I think a lightweight Fox with a 2.2L or 2.4L Kenne Bell Terminator motor would be a fun little car to work with.

ive heard that it has been done before, the main thing that stops most people is that you can buy a complete 5.0 motor that is supercharged or turbod for less than the 03/04 costs. but hey, having a terminator fox would be bad ***, so if that is your goal, go for it. i just want to see a video of the finished product

Well the 03/04 motor is already pretty stout, can be easily modded, and has alot of potential. Granted you can do all of that with a 5.0, but I think it's all a wash. 5.0 stuff is dirt cheap, but how much money do you have to spend to make a reliable 500-600 rwhp? With an 03/04 Cobra its bolt ons, a KB 2.2, and some good tuning and you've got a car that drives like a dream and would be reliable as could be. Getting a 5.0 to that level and you're looking at something a little more radical and a little less reliable (for what I'm looking at, of course you can get into aftermarket blocks and whatnot and level the field and etc etc etc). Just seems like a very good concept to me and I'd like to try to pull it off at some point in the future.

well, like i said, if you are set on doing it, and can get the engine at a good price, by all means, do it! and keep in mind everybody will want to see the video of it when completed. and yes, i was referring to getting an aftermarket block, i wouldnt trust that much hp on a stock block, but they can be found at good prices, i know http://www.dssracing.com/ has quality products available. i havent gotten to that point with my car tho, so i really cant say what the best block for the price would be.

a quick google of 03 cobra engines gave me this page http://www.karkraft.com/long_blocks.htm

so it would appear the price isnt too out there. either way, good luck with your project

Yeah, I think it would most definitely be a cool project that would be VERY unique, very reliable, and very drivable/fun to drive. You always see built 5.0s with some type of stock Ford wheels. A car with some nice paint and some nice custom wheels and an 03/04 Kenne Bell in it would definitely be about as unique as a Mustang can get.

Looks like that has all the resources I need to learn about what is involved in the swap. I can see now that it will not be a cheap endevor. I'm actually estimating total build cost at this level to be almost $30,000 to get everything on the car just right front to back inside and out (the engine and trans swap would be half that almost by my estimates). Still trying to decide which direction to go with the car but this is definitley an option in time. Its either make it an ultimate street machine with this setup, swap in a built 5.0 and make it a track car, or do a fun little turbo 2.3L build just for the heck of it. Might start out on the 2.3L level and jump to this project when funds allow in a few years so I get the best of both worlds.

Its been done many times with some great results.

What I would do is find a totalled 03/04 Cobra, and buy the car in its entirity. This gives you MANY things. You have the engine/tranny setup for your car as well as the computer(if you want to run the stock electronics).

The IRS will also fit into a Fox chassis with minor modifications, so now you have this at your disposal as well.

Stock Fox brakes suck ***, not to worry, the Cobra has 13" and 11.65"(?) discs front and rear that will ALSO fit your car with minor modifications.

It doesn't stop there though. You've also got the seats which will fit into a Fox, and a couple people have actually put the dash and cehter console from a late model car into a Fox chassis(this takes some work but looks GREAT when its complete).

After you've taken all you need, you still have the option of selling the parts you did not use, the doors, hood, trunk lid/spoiler. Basically, anything that wasn't trashed in the wreck is worth some money on these cars. When its all said and done the local metal yard will pick it up from your house and give you $60 for it haha.
