Mod motor heads/cams

With the new 3 valve motors, anyone here done some head work and/or swapped the cams yet? I'm really wanting to see how these breathe in comparison to the 2V and 4V stuff.

SJRTX 03-07-2006 10:17 AM

Ive seen one guy on the web make 380 rwhp with a heads/cam bolt on 3v motor.

Brandon Boomhauer 03-07-2006 11:52 AM

is that a good #?

TJs98GT 03-07-2006 12:08 PM

whos makin the cams for the 3v? i assume they are custom grind

I've seen a few companies advertise they're grinding cams, one stating they have billet blanks as well.

SJRTX 03-07-2006 02:01 PM

That was supposed to be at the rear wheels.

That number is pretty good considering most H/C bolt on 2v 4.6's wont do much past 300rwhp.

TJs98GT 03-07-2006 08:14 PM

haha yeah ill vouch for that one

cyphur 03-08-2006 01:34 PM

camS.....thats just double the trouble!! would hate to have to port a 3v head tho, lol.

380 is a damn good number for those cubes.

Nine Ball 03-09-2006 09:53 PM

I spoke with Patriot Performance, they are developing ported 3V heads right now. Should be available sometime this year, probably late in the year.

There have been good results on Lightnings with their stuff.

Pro Stock John 03-09-2006 10:28 PM

I've seen good numbers posted just for ported head swaps. Livernois has done some and I have heard some good gains.

I'm not sure on cams.

Double trouble is dead on. I wonder if the port jobs cost 1/3 more? :jest:

Thoroughbred 03-13-2006 11:53 AM

Ill have to go dig out some ole mags but from what I remember. The new 3V heads blow the old 2V's outa the water. The motor is a complete different monster. The other month...5.0 Mustang mag put a basic Vorteq kit on a 05 3V, with just 8 or 10lbs of boost on stock exhaust manifolds she layed down 500rwhp.

K Bo 03-13-2006 04:52 PM

The new 3V heads flow like crazy on the intake side when ported. Livernois has been selling their ported heads for awhile now, they are very nice pieces. They might make their way onto my car!

As for cams, none yet. BBR made some re-grinds, but F those.

BWH2003 03-31-2006 01:20 PM

I agree the new 3V motors are amazing. Thoroughbred go find that magazine, scan it and post it up on here. I missed that article and would love to read it.

Thoroughbred 03-31-2006 02:03 PM

I dont have a scanner but I bet I can find one from somebody.

unit213 03-31-2006 02:06 PM

Livernois has ported heads on their blown '05 GT. I'm not sure if it's running
stock cams or not though. From what I've seen, the 3V heads flow like crazy.

Do the new 3v heads flow better then the 03-04 4v heads?

I would have to say no, but that's just a guess honestly. I haven't
seen flow numbers for 3V vs 4V heads. I'm sure there are flow bench
numbers out there. I'll snoop around.

K Bo 04-01-2006 02:00 PM

The 3V heads do not outflow the 4V heads, but are not far behind.

The Liverniois car is running, but I don't think they have had it to the track yet with the new F1 setup. :drive:

True. I want to make a pass or two in it this spring.

WILWAXU 04-08-2006 05:20 PM

I was at Boss330 shop a couple weeks back, he has a couple 3 valve projects he's working on.

Yeah I have been keeping up with this Livernois Head. They dont flow more than the 4V, but I am hearing the Variable cam timing (if a solution to make it work on pre 05 computers comes available) will be flat awesome. From what I was told the 3V heads are pushing the 300cfm mark.. not quite there but close.

383ss 04-15-2006 05:30 PM

MM&SF just did an article on the Fox Lake heads.

here are the flow #'s

lift - i - e
.100 - 87 - 60
.200 - 168 - 109
.300 - 224 - 140
.400 - 245 - 174
.500 - 259 - 190
.550 - 263 - 198
.600 - 266 - 204

not bad for $1400. they picked up 28hp and 5lbft at the wheels for a total of 315/321. other mods included !CMRC, X-pipe, underdrive pulley and JBA mufflers. kinda dumb to put heads on a car with stock cam and no headers if you ask me, but still a nice gain. I could see an agressive h/c combo with all the bolt-ons doing 400rwhp :)
