Default MAF calibration question?

Why do the Ford MAFs have to be recalibrated for bigger injectors, but GM MAFs don't?

Its not really "calibrating" the MAF as much as its NOT calibrating the PCM. You're basically accomplishing the same thing, without having to dig into the PCM code. With the EEC-IV, that means not having to tear apart your kick panel, and install a module into the J3 diagnostic port of the PCM.

For all intents and purposes, you're merely tricking the PCM into thinking less air is entering the engine. Thus, the PCM commands shorter pulse widths to the injectors. The "right" way to do it would be to alter the injector flow rate table in the PCM, just like GM guys do it.

that's what i figured...my brother has a mustang and keeps telling me he needs to calibrate the MAF if i were to give him my SVO 30#ers. i told him he should probably do it with a chip at the PCM because i thought this way was ghetto...like the 85mm MAF's on LS1's - it just makes PCM tuning a bitch later

Thanks for the info guys. That's exactly what I thought they were doing. Just wanted to make sure. If I do any serious mods like that, I'll just pick up the SCT Pro setup.
