Default Building a '91 302

Well, got ahold of a stock 1991 5.0l long block with an extra set of E7 heads. The long block has 160,xxx miles. My buddy and I plan on building this long block back up to running carb'd engine. It ran when pulled.

We dont want to put alot of money into it. This is the first Ford engine I will be building. I am versed on SBC and LSx engines. The question I have is: What is the max lift I can run with out smacking pistons? I ask this because, I know that I can manipulate VE's and run a monster in a LS1. But, dont know crap about Ford engines. Am I limited to XE lobes or can I use XE-R lobes, XFI?

I'm thinking that if we put about $1500 into this engine, we can get about 400hp out of it, or more.

Plans:

Carburater
Dual plane intake manifold
Ported stock heads
.030 over bore w/decent "budget" pistons
Stock block
Stock crankshaft
Stock connecting rods
Upgraded valvetrain
Custom grind Cam

I will keep this thread updated as we move along. I will get be getting pictures up too. Any and all suggestions welcome.
