How to use SCT's extreme tune
|
cool. kind of a nice rudimentary tool. I was having trouble getting it to upload to the tuner though :(
|
Try www.sctflash.com and go to the discussion forums where Ryan and then from SCT can help. They have a huge faq and support forums there.

I'm curious what this tuning program will be sufficient for. I would never use it for FI, but will it compensate decently for NA modifications? obviously it wouldnt' be ideal, but would it work ok?
|
It will give you limited usability of the ecu. You can change some things, but they won't be major or anything.
The pro racer package will give you full control of the ecu. |
It was desiged to give some minor adjustments for changes in your combination, when the only hardware was the XCal1 and 9100 tuners. The PRP is a FAR better choice for the customers who want full control of the tune.
Thanks for the good words Blackfang. Ryan (ryan@sct) |
Black fang,In your opinion what is the most powerful tuning device I can get for my NA 97 cobra I was thinking a custom chip from diablo sport or something, see I cant get a dyno tune where I am so I need the next best thing for the most TQ and HP I can get with my mods.
BTW I want to add a 100hp to my cobra with basic bolt ons if possible no N20 no FI no cams just bolt ons.Can this be done? |
No Problem Ryan. I love your guys stuff since I got my Xcal 2 years ago.
Soon as i can do my heads, intake cams and NX I may go with the PRP. Z28XTC- If you are very familiar and have tune tons of Modulars cars, then get the PRP. Otherwise I would suggest a reputable tuner like Tim Barth@ Modular Powerhouse, Justin Starkie, Monty@JMS or Ken Bjonnes@ Modular Depot. You will NEVER get 100 hp on a B headed 4V without nitrous, a supercharger, or ported C heads/intake with stage 2/3 cams. Heck, to support that, you will have to have it tuned, run 4.56 gears to take advantage of the cams making power to 7500 among a few other things. Basic bolt ons will get you 290-295 rwhp on a B headed 4V. |
Why will I never get a 100hp over stock with bolt ons?Are these cars not very good to mod?
|
Timing Adjuster 5hp,MZ water pump 5hp,Pulley 10 hp,MAF 10hp, IMRC delete 5hp,Acufab T/B 10 hp,headers, orx & better flowing exhausts 35hp,CAI 15hp and tune in my case mail order 15hp, now this is all a guess at this as I am new to this but take a look and tell me what you think but before you get started ripping my little list to bits the headers, orx and exhaust got 35hp cause I was thinking about kooks with venturi collectors for a extra 10hp otherwise 25hp for full exhaust. But my list came to a total of 110hp but take off ten if you think 100 is more real LOL or a I dreaming.
|
If you think it will be that easy, then do it. If you get 100 hp, you will be the FIRST ONE EVER IN HISTORY to get 100 hp with just bolt ons. You don't understand the B headed 4V nor the modular motors if you think you can just cram bolt ons and get 100hp.
I would never put on Under Drive Pulleys because they are bad for the 4V. They have caused engine failures due to ruining the oil pump gears. Seems you are just looking at the best gains possible with each mod and adding them up. Put them all on, go dyno you will come back with 290-295 rwhp, yes as thats what you will have. Mark(bitemark) on here has every bolt on on his 97 Cobra and a short runner intake and he has around 295 rwhp running 12.0's. |
Cool 12s but please tell me are my figures per item off?
|
And FYI I was reading mustang monthly I think a while ago and it may be BS but they took a 96 cobra and with k&N filter and magna flo exhaust I think and got like 260 at wheels them they added headers and orx and only gained a crapy 15 hp then they sent away for a diablo custom chip made up by someone and got a round 290-300hp that way, the article was called its all in the tune I really wish I still had the magazine it may have been ford and mustang anyway what I am trying to say is we are not talking a lot of power here and do those extra mods equal nothing. As for the pulley prob I thought that was damage caused at time of installation and marchs ones are fluid pulleys less vibs right?.
|
That is a little high. Bitemark who has just about every bolt on and a short runner intake, longtubes, exhaust, etc and making right around 300. LT's, o/r x and catback with a tune and K&N wont give a 96-98 4V 300 rwhp.

I've got a livewire and so far I like it. Have you used or are familiar with the pro racer package? I'd love to tweak some of the tunes I got with the unit.

Thanx for the invite to call. I'm getting the hang of it a bit more now. The SCT forum has been some help also. The fine tuning phase is probably the next move. Getting the MAF table inline with the commanded fuel.:judge:
