Default 4.6 turbo options?

ok, ive been thinking about this recently. would the SOHC/DOHC issue effect choice of turbo? in some way does the valvetrain differences create a difference in the characteristics of the turbo spool and power curve? anyone maybe hve a dyno sheet from each with the same turbo for comparison?

see www.turbochargedpower.com and proturbokits.com

Both make 4.6 kits. There's also a few more companies. B&G Fabrication in Ohio, and some company who's name I can't remember in New Mexico also makes a nice kit for the 4.6. I'd suggest putting in some calls to those companies and see what they recommend.

Ahh good point. I forgot about Hellion. Supposedly nice kits, polished stainless on the cold side, and they re-use your factory headers to save a little on cost.

you arent getting the question... would an sohc and dohc with the same turbo act differently in terms of spool, power curve, and why?

I would assume they would act differently. One is a lot more efficient at moving air than the other. So in essence you should be able to make the same RWHP with the DOHC at less boost than what you could with the SOHC.

SOHC would probably spool up quicker due to only having one intake valve and lower CFM#'s as compared to a DOHC head. But on the flip side the DOHC would probably pull to 7k or higher where as the SOHC would be already dropping off at that point.

I agree w/ Saleen91, DOHC would make the same#'s w/ less boost but it would make the same peak power at a higher rpm. Same goes with the peak torque #'s too. But for a street car setup I wouldn't think the size of the turbo would be different. Now purpose built race car it probably would. I would put a bigger turbo on the 4v then the 2v simply cause the 4v moves more air (obviously). -Mark
