I'm looking at some 17x9 wheels for my '86, and being my first Mustang I'd like to know what good tire size combos there are out there for it! It doesn't have the quadshocks so I am told I can fit a 275 in the back? I have no idea. Discuss!

Even in the front? I'd think a 275 would rub like a bitch in the front...

 

You might be able to get away with a 255/40 in the front, I would not go with anything narrower, though. It might be a tad narrow, but it will look ok, and the narrower tire and slighlty shorter height should help prevent rubbing.

 

i would go with a 245/45 or a 245/40 in the front. on the back you can run a pretty tall tire though. ive seen some people with 275/55. if you want the same diameter, or at least close to, the front tires go with a 275/40 out back.

in reality you really dont want anything fatter on the front anyway, the handling benefits arent THAT huge, but the driveability differences are quite significant, that fatter tire is going to wanna follow the grooves/imperfections/slopes in the road a lot more and the car is going to feel like its all over the place

 

245 is too narrow for a 9" wide wheel, IMO.

 

itll fit right on with no problem, a 255 would offer more rim protection though if you tend to hit curbs when you park

 

I know it will fit, I just think a 245 doesn't look right on a 9" wide wheel. That is just my personal preference, though.

 

Im trying to find some 17x8s for the front so I can run a 245... I foundout the backspacing on these is +18mm though, most cars I've seen run like +20, +22 somewhere in there...
