View Full Version : Headed to HRP tonight
Larry 03-24-2006, 08:29 AM Anybody headed out to HRP tonight? I'm going to be testing my new tune along with my cold air intake on my 06 stang. Previously ran a 13.42 @ 101.80 mph with just an ASP crank pulley. We will see if all the hype about these CAI's and tuning is for real.
man, I wish I was going, the weather will be great! good luck and post some numbers!
Larry 03-24-2006, 10:28 PM Ran a 13.151 @ 102.98 mph, 60'- 2.012
This is with the addition of an Evolution SCT tuning and a JLT air intake. my signature has my previous with stock tuning, stock air box.
Air was a little cooler tonight though. About 10 degrees according to Weather Underground. Still not a bad gain.
These new automatics sure could benefit from a loose torque converter. It comes on slowly at launch. You can feel the torque come in 30 or 40 feet out. Has to be costing ET! And the rpm drop between 2-3 and 3-4 could be greatly improved. 3-4 almost feels like you put on the brakes when it shifts.
Traction is good on the car with the factory radials. I'm sure a converter would change that.
DAMNITTT. I wanted to go so bad last night. I have a C&L/XCal2 and Corsa. I am glad to hear your times. Congrats. I just ordered a 3600 PI stall and plan on getting some sticky tires soon. Hopin' to run some 12.70's in ok weather. Then the serious mods come. Congrats again, nice times!

I wanted to go 4000, but I just couldn't justify that much converter yet. I'm excited.
Larry 03-25-2006, 12:05 PM 4000 would be perfect for our 4500 peak torque. PI recommends 500 rpm less than peak torque for maximum ET.
Be sure to let us know how much improvement you get from the PI. Do you have a time with the stock converter?

13.46@102 BUT, I ran twice more that night and got two blank timeslips, and I am posaitive they were faster passes. Oh well.
RYNO_Z 03-25-2006, 05:02 PM They gave you blanks on purpose so you weren't pissed that you kept running slower. :jest:

Great times Larry! Looks like the stock converter works well with the street tires! :drive:
When are you upgrading to a loose converter??? Should be easy 12's!

Not sure if I will put a converter in this one however. I can ET race now with radials and launch pretty consistently. No need to change out tires at the track or take a chance drivng out with sticky tires just to get caught in the rain. Will be a fun car to ET race just like it is. A converter is a pretty expensive mod too expecially when you have to add tires into the picture!
Nine Ball 03-28-2006, 12:00 AM Nice times Larry! I wanted to go to HRP last Friday also, but got trapped doing yard work. :(
Looks like bracket racing starts on Apr 12th, I might have to start taking this Mustang weekly.

TonyIt would be fun to line em up! Kinda like old times. Lets try for that first Wednesday night ET racing. I wouldn't mind winning a "second" place trophy.
Just can't believe yard work is more important than racing! LOL!
White90GT 03-31-2006, 11:47 AM Running good Larry!
Tony, when the hell did you rack up such a collection of vehicles???? 98 Formula, I thought you sold that a long time ago?
Nine Ball 03-31-2006, 12:35 PM Hi Carl, this is a different 98 Formula

i noticed you were running JLT have you heard of any heat issues with these since the outside temp is starting to rise. I noticed on the jlt test on the tech article right up that they were having heat issues. does yours have some kind of heat sheild?
Coach 02 A3 Z/28 04-10-2006, 05:07 PM Congrats on your times Larry.

I noticed on the jlt test on the tech article right up that they were having heat issues. does yours have some kind of heat sheild? If you can call it a heat shield, yes it does come with one. Not sure how much heat it is shielding. It's a simple made flat piece of plastic. All these "CAI" are still pulling in hot under hood air so I'm not convinced that any kind of shield is going to work unless it totally shields from under hood air. The factory air box pulls under hood air.
Thanks for all the compliments!
