View Full Version : Cams 2000GT 04-10-2006, 11:02 PM What would be the best cams to go with for a 00 gt 99camarosupersport 04-11-2006, 02:53 AM i'd go with the cam camerons myself. heard the camelo camthonys were good too. K Bo 04-11-2006, 03:17 AM Look at Comp, VT, Crower, and JDM. Talk to the manufacturers and tell them your current setup and what you are looking for, thay will get you squared away. Top Fuel Friday 04-11-2006, 06:32 AM I'm putting the Crower stage 2 n/a's in my 00GT, but if I could do it again I'd get teh Crower stage 2 SC cam's they are apparently very roudy for n/a buildups 01steeda 04-11-2006, 10:50 PM you really need to have a goal to pick a cam. It depends on your other supporting mods as well. I am finding that the cams I have may not be the best for my setup... but good for others. Alot of people are having great luck with VT's cams on unported heads. There is a guy on stangnet with VT stage 1's and bolt ons at almost 300 RWHP, stock heads. Just depends on your goals and future plans. 99camarosupersport 04-11-2006, 11:41 PM what supporting mods are usually needed on a 4.6 auto before a cam buildup? full exhaust, but what after that? 2000GT 04-11-2006, 11:46 PM Well what im getting ready to do is put some longtube headers on, 4:10 gears, underdrive pulleys. For right now , and the cams of course. My Car is a AT and im looking for a pretty good thump out of the cam. 99camarosupersport 04-11-2006, 11:52 PM ford guys - is any tranny work needed before a cam such as a stall?? K Bo 04-12-2006, 12:09 AM you really need to have a goal to pick a cam. K Bo 04-12-2006, 12:11 AM In an auto 2V I would get a converter, a valve body, 4.10s, lontubes, and then get the cams based on my goals after that. A buddy of mine is running consistent 12.60s in a 2V auto with said mods and Patriot stg. 2 heads. 01steeda 04-12-2006, 12:13 AM Bill Putnam went 11.9x on stock heads with VT Stage 1 cams. SWEEET! I had never heard of that one. I am sure he had alot of suspension work and wieght reduction though. To answer the stall question depends on how high a cam u go... the same that applies for most engines does to the modular on things like that. I would say look into the Vt stage 1 cams though for the originator of this post. Stage 1's wont require a valve spring upgrade like the 2's and they seem to make 20-25 HP. Bullitt intake, suspension, 4.30s, tires, and weight reduction. 01steeda 04-12-2006, 09:24 AM Thats awesome. If I didnt have a vert I would get all out into it. I may buy a coupe to play with and see what I can make happen. johnpate01 04-13-2006, 09:17 PM I would call the mfg. to get their recommendation. This is what they are there for. |
