CB Radio

We picked up a pretty nice CB radio for free at our internship last summer, and I was contemplating putting it in the Mustang when I redo the dual stereo nonsense....Exactly how redneck would that be? And how hard would it be to do? All we have is the radio, no wires, no mic, nothing.

Very much redneck/Smokey and the Bandit style. Can you even run those things without a huge antenna? A mustang with a big "whip" style CB antenna would not look good to say the least...

*dont do it*

They definitely work best with a "huge" antenna -- 102" long to be exact ;) If you wanted a temporary-use antenna that actually works, look into the magnet mounted Wilson 1000. The magnet mounted K-40 isn't bad either, but the Wilson is the best I've used.

What kinda radio did you pick up? I've run a LOT of different rigs over the years, and modified every last one of 'em

"Cobra 29 NW LTD Classic". I wanted a magnetic antenna so I only had to have it on for trips, the problem is the trunk is fiberglass, so where would I put it?

My internship was at Peterbilt, my boyfriend's the one who picked it up though, we both worked there but he was in the R&D lab and I was in the divisional office.

29 is a pretty decent, basic rig.. It'll serve you well. You'll have to stick the magnet somewhere on steel, you might get stuck putting it on the roof... Ultra redneck, but if its temporary who cares

Brains - Do you still have SWR meter. I need to install an antenna and tune it on my daughter's Z71, and I can't find my meter. Think it must have been in my rollarounf that was stolen back in the 80's

No, I gave away all my radio gear before moving south in 1998 ... :(

Yeah, I think it's going in my dad's truck...it can get away with the antenna look!
