Hesitates for 1sec @ WOT
When going from partial to WOT in my 86 (Carb'd 302... Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Edelbrock 600 carb, 89 longblock) it'll go wide-open, I can feel it want to go, THEN it goes.. It's like maybe it's dumping too much fuel in there and taking it a second to burn it all.. Thats what it seems like... Anyone have any ideas? It seems like it may be running a little bit on the rich-side but would dumping too much fuel cause it to do this? I've adjusted the air:fuel mixture screws so it has a nice even idle and runs damn good... But still feel like she's running rich...
Time for a dyno tune with a wideband? Maybe change the jets in the carb? |
Probably not enough fuel, not getting a strong squirt of fuel from the accelerator pump.
|
Ya I agree on not enough fuel. Maybe just clean your carb, maybe check fuel filter, and or fuel pump.
|
Pump & Filter are new. It's a Holley Blue pump.. Maybe I'll open up the regulator a tiny bit? let some extra fuel get to it? It's at I'd say 8lbs?

honestly i would think the opposite, if it was running lean it would probably cut out more on the top end. i would think too much fuel and its just bogging out for a second till it clears itself out.
seeing as how its def better to run rich than lean i would try to dump a little extra in first, if it gets worse then you know it was running too rich to begin with and just lean it out a little bit. |
Easiest way to tell -- pull the air cleaner and take a look down the carb's throat.
Hit the throttle a couple times to make sure it won't backfire and blow your face off though :) Anyway, take a look down the carb and see how much fuel is pumped when you crank the throttle over, and then how much fuel once the vacuum catches up and starts pulling more fuel out the normal path. Short-duration stumbles in a carb car are nearly always due to lack of fuel at that moment though, and since it only happens on throttle transitions (where you need extra fuel right away) I'm thinking its tied to your accelerator pump section of the carb. |
I slightly adjusted my air:fuel mixture and it seems to be running better now.
|
Small adjustments is all it takes, keep at it and I'm sure you'll get it right where you want it.
