Coated Headers

Do they really decrease underhood temps enough to warrent buying them over keepin the ones I have now? This is for a daily driver with a/c.

*shrug* I have JET HOT coated headers on my 86. When I went from the nasty (in a bad way) tri-y/longtubes to these jet hot shorties I'd say my underhood temps have significantly been reduced. Plus having them coated does make them a lot more durable, corrosion resistant, and look better.

whered you pick up those jet hots?

Quick86 04-28-2006 09:46 PM

I got them from a performance shop, don't remember which. But you can get any header JET HOT coated, http://www.jet-hot.com/

I'd check in to it. Honestly, every header I install from now on will be coated after my experience with these ones! :)

I can only give un-scientific experience as well, but switching from manifolds to coated long tubes, the amount of heat blasting me in the face when I'd pop the hood definitely went down.

While it helps, I would spend the money elsewhere Kevin. I don't think it'd be worth the difference you'd spend after selling yours and buying a set of coated ones.

This is just my opinion.

Now if yours are rusting away to oblivion and you need a new set anyways, then by all means...

Thoroughbred 04-30-2006 11:25 PM

Na I dont need any new ones, just an idea since coated Mac shorties are only a little over 200. BBK too..Texas is hot as hell during the summer. I might save the $$ but we shall see.

i agree, if you already have long tubes i would save the money and spend it elsewhere. they gains would def be there, but not enough to say its worth it, maybe just take yours out and wrap them? but now that i read it i think you might have shorties???? if thats the case it WOULD be worth it to swap them out for some coated LTs and ditch the non coated shorties

Unless you need new ones I would spend the money elsewhere. However if you decide to go Jet-Hot, I can hook you up.

Ill remember that!

Yea Ive got shorties. Not looking for a shorty to LT gain in HP, but a non-coated header to coated header underhood temp gain. I live in Houston, the traffic is awesome and the temp gets high!
