Default SERIOUS hp?

Hey guys, just found the site. I have a 96 Towncar that I want to do some serious modifications to. I'm not sure where to start though. I want the car to be able to be a daily driver, although I won't be driving on the street a lot.

I'm looking for BIG hp numbers. like 500+ I want to fit a set of skinnies and slicks for the track. Convert to manual gearbox. Serious internal mods for the 4.6, or swap to bigger motor? Power adder? I'm not gonna gut the car though. Full weight. What are the things I should know?

First off I'd say a motor swap to a cobra motor but I don't think it will fit under the hood. So First thing you want to do is a head swap to PI heads. Then if your wallet can take it a T76 or something. If not, alteast put a blower on it and I'm sure you can hit 500+rwhp with decent boost. That would be pretty funny to see a towncar haulin some ****. -Mark

Not the width but the height. The intake hitting the hood is what I'm worried about.

n00b question here.....why would it be any taller than stock? it is an EFI motor, is there a bigger manifold that I'll need or something? If so, can alway cut a hole in the hood

i think your best bet is to go with some P&P 2 valve PI heads, forged short block and a centrifugal style blower for clearance purposes. procharger f1 will take you to those numbers and beyond. just make sure you get a forged crank for those #s. ill be using an MMR street mod 900 block, patriot heads, VT blower cams and a KB 2.6 when my build is all said and done and im looking for between 650-700 rwhp. but funds only allow one big purchase each year, last winter was the TKO this winter is the heads then next year the short block and eventually the KB

he was talking about an 03 or 04 cobra motor and yes they are taller b/c of the roots type blower that they have, stick with the motor you have, get some PI heads, some small blower cams, and get a vortech SQ blower w/around 12lbs of boost and you should be pretty damn close to 500rwhp, converting to a T-56 or T-5 would take some decent amount of fabrication, stick with the auto just have it rebuilt to handle the power

do you think the stock rear could hold that power? I know that autos are more friendly to rears, but would it hold?
