PI head swap ?s
 

I am doing a pi head swap for the first time on a 98 GT. The heads are off a 99 s281 and the intake is off of a 2000 Grand Marquis. What are all the little bits and pieces I may need to make the conversion? i.e. gaskets, brackets, adapters, anything else you can think of. What plugs should I use with these heads, I will want to stick with platinums for longevity reasons. The car is all stock besides Flowmasters, CAI, and Accufab TB-plenum. What about the cam gears on the PI cams, are there any criticle things that I may be ignorant about. Thanks for the help.

pi to non pi engines are the intake ports, on the intake side and the cyl head side

Well I did the swap last week. It turns out there are quite a few things needed.
I will make a list hopefully to help anyone else who is interested in do the swap.

Here is what you will need:
*PI heads
*PI Intake manifold-the one with the aluminum coolant cross over is better because you can tap threads into it for the second temp sensor. 2003 and up 4.6 2v have the aluminum cross over. If you can only get your hands on a 99-02 manifold you can extend the wires for the sensor and mount it in a coolant passage on the side of the block.
*You will need and alternator bracket that will fit with the new intake.
*Head gaskets
*head bolts
*intake manifold gaskets for 99-04 mustang
*heater tube that goes from back of water pump to heater hose
*heater hose that goes from heater tube to heater core(firewall)
*Exhaust manifold gaskets
*timing cover gaskets
*front crank/pulley seal
*valve cover gaskets
*Thermostat and O-Ring
*it is a good time to change the spark plugs if needed

sounds like fun, I've got almost all the parts in my garage for a PI swap too. Now I just need a free weekend.

Helps alot from what I've seen. Did you notice a difference?

It's much easier to do a PI motor swap.I did it and now have a very very low mileage motor in my 96 (21,000) and paid $500 for the whole deal.
