Mach 1 Cobra whats the diff in motor?

Okay I'm debating on a mod motor and have a few dumb questions. Is the major engine difference in say an 03 Mach 1 and an 03 Cobra the supercharger? Are they both 4v engines? If not then what's the difference in the two powerplants? And how are they comparable to the new mustang engines? Thanks for helping a chevy guy out.

forged internals, and the eaton from what i know. i have only run a mach 1 with intake, and exhaust and it wasnt even a matchup, this was before my pulley swap as well. but the new gts are compareable to the mach1 maybe a little slower. now if you are talking the shelby gt mustang that is like the new mach1 a little more power.

The engines use the same heads, with a diffrent cam. The mach1 if it's a 5 speed has a forged crank if it's an auto it doesn't. The mach has an alluminum block where the cobra has an iron block. The cobra has a completely forged rotating assembly.

03/04 Cobra have a built bottom end,(iron block w/forged internals) diff heads and cams, and has a supercharger. Also have IRS

Mach 1 has alluminum block with only a forged crank. The heads from a 03/04 Cobra will fit but they are of a diff design to flow more for the supercharger. The cams are diff as well. Also has a live axle. Basically a Mach 1 is an 99/01 Cobra with a Shaker hood and live axle. You can get a Mach 1 in an auto, the Cobra only comes in a manual transmission.

I have seen Mach's go pretty fast with almost no mods though. They sure love that giggle gas.

Gentlemen...

03/04 Mach and Cobra share the same exact heads and cams. The shortblocks are different: Cobra has an iron block with forged pistons and better rods. Mach has an aluminum block with hyperpathetic pistons. Both have forged cranks, except if the Mach has an Auto (ask Ford why - only they know).

03/04 Mach (and 03/04 Cobra) have different heads and cams than a 99/01 Cobra.

I think the above posts pretty much covered everything. The motors in the Cobras and Machs are both same displacement DOHC 4V motors. They're just composed of different parts, as explained. The transmissions are completely different, though. Cobra has the 6-speed t-56, while the Mach has the 5-speed t-3650.

It's kinda hard to compare the two as they're almost two different cars. The Cobra is several hundred pounds heavier than the Mach, but has around 80 rear wheel more in stock form.....

The new Mustangs, I believe, are more similar to the 99-04 GTs than the Mach or Cobra 4V motors. 2005 and up GTs have the 3V SOHC 4.6L, and I think have the cast iron block. They're also bigger and heavier... I've raced a few 05s and they're usually at my door until 3rd gear, then I leave them by several car lengths. They don't seem to have much top end... so I'd have to say stick with a 4V if you're going with a modular.

05+ 4.6 GTs have aluminum blocks. :)

Well damn, I guess that extra weight all just comes from the bigger body.

05+ cars weigh about the same as a 99-04 car.
