First mods for a 97 Cobra...
My buddy just bought a 97 Cobra, real nice car. So far it has an off-road H-Pipe and some magnaflows, otherwise - stock. Looking for what majority of Cobra/4V owners feel are the best ways to start out with this car. I know all the basics of what should be done, but what are the recommended parts/brands that people have been using with success? I know nothing when it comes to 4v modifying, so you'll be schooling me!
So far what I have recommended is shit like a BBK or K&N Cold-Air setup, get a bigger MAF (I don't know how efficient the stockers are? is this a worthwhile mod?), Headers, short throw shifter, then some gears.... |
4.30 gears, pullies (I have Steeda) , CAI (I have a JLT), and some longtubes (I have some Hookers that have been Jet-hot coated). Through some nitrous on it and you should be in the 11's with et streets.
Those are the basics. They can make a lot of power if you so it right. |
If it's his daily driver I agree with Nick. Get some 4.30's. If its a weekend warrior then get some 4.56's. Keep the stock MAF. They flow plenty for a N/A motor. Stay away from the BBK CAI. Get the JLT ones. They are better. Aftermarket shifter is mandatory with the T45 (aluminum shiftforks). If he wants to do LT's then kooks all the way... if he can afford it. If not then BBK LT's are good bang for buck. So in summary...
4.30's JLT (CAI or RAI) Aftermarkte shifter Kooks ($) or BBK LT's and a Tune. -Mark |
I'd add some subs to that stuff

His concern with the JLT CAIs is they wont clear his STB
Its a daily driver, yes. |

Its a daily driver, yes. Yes that's the only downside for the JLT's. STB is a waste. Tell him to trash it. Its dead weight. ;) If he does all the bolt-ons possible he could have anywhere between 295-305rwhp. Then he could get a shortrunner intake and would be around ~320rwhp. -Mark |
