Rear End Questions

whats up everybody.. I have an 00 GT that I want to get a 31 spline in and put down some crazy low 60fts

Basically I'm thinking either Moser or Strange 31 spline Axles and I'm completely unsure about the differential. I already have 4.10 gears to put in it. I also want to run some drag slicks. Anything else I'll need, let me know! This is mainly for the track obviously, but I still need it to be streetable, its my DD!

My main question though is about the differential. This car is my daily driver, and I've heard the Detroit True Trac isn't the best thing for daily driving on the street and that I should go with something like the Eaton Posi that uses CF discs instead. I know those can wear out, unlike the tru trac, but how hard would it be to replace them?

Since its a daily driver, I'd recommend either a good ol' Ford truck 31 spline Trac Loc, or the Eaton if you like to spend money. The Eaton is a bad ass unit, I have one in my 12 bolt GM rear (Formula). But, for the money you can't really beat the truck diff. If you need it stiffer, you can always stack it up with a couple more frictions too.

I went with a truck t'loc, with Moser axles in my coupe :)

I agree with brains. Back when my car was my DD I had the superman diff (detroit locker). lol. It clunked, clanked, rattled, you name it. My habits had to change a little but it wasn't bad after I got used to it. But it felt good going to the track and dropping the hammer at 7000rpms and knowing the diff wasn't going to leave me stranded. -Mark

Get the Eaton, I have beat the hell out of mine in the last 1 1/2 years and it is still kicking strong.. I broke many Ford tracklocks, so I would stay away from them..

I'm running an Eaton with Moser 31 splines.

There is nothing wrong with the Ford unit, unless you plan on putting down a ton of power (500+). I picked up my diff off ebay for $60. Total I have $140 in my built rearend :)

As far as axles go, I like my Superiors. They'll work fine for what you'll need. Unless you plan on tons of power, in which case I would go with Mark Williams.

another vote for the Eaton. For a daily driver that wants to have some fun without worries... it get my vote.
