Gear Change Shop???

Whats a good and reasonable shop in the Houston area to change r/p on a 04 Mustang?

I've had several installed locally but so far haven't had one installed that didn't make noise. If you find one that does it right let me know.

I had one to lay the ring gear on the dirty floor and pick it up and attempt to install it without cleaning it. Dirt and gears is not a good mix! I have yet to see one use a dial indicator to check backlash.

Heh, you never came to me for your installs then Larry. :)

I know someone who could help you out, ;)

Who? Are they good?

I found a shop here in Houston that charges $425 for parts (Ford 3.73's) and install, but they want another $425 to correct the speedo......

Spring, but I know nothing about speedo recals.

FWIW, IMO, $425 for gears and install is high, IMO. What do gears run these days?

the 8.8 3.73's run any where from about $130.00 to or about $190.00 depending on where you get them and who makes them

Then yeah, I would say $425 is a rip for gears plus labor, but that's just my opinion.

When I did gears often for money while in school, I would charge $150 labor, and you bring the gears, 2 qts of fluid, and a new rearend cover gasket.

Let's estimate the gearset and fluid runs you $180. You can see how $425 seems like a rip to me, haha.

I don't mind paying $425 for the gear change, it's the *ucking $425 for the speedo correction that bites my a$$!!!

I bought my gears, bearing rebuild kit and a hand held tuner(can change speedo) for $450 shipped and can get it installed for around $200 or so

You don't mind overpaying for a gear install by that much? Heck, ok, pay me $425 and I'll get the gears for you and install them and they'll be correct. You're on your own as far as the speedo cal goes though. Locals can vouch for my gear installs and I'm in Spring. :)
