Anyone ever tried locking their converter in 2nd and 3rd at WOT? Could it be possible to gain et by locking at the right rpm? Maybe lock around 200 rpm above peak hp to drop the rpm then have shift a hundred or two above that. At shift program to unlock so it's loose again for the next gear.

Might write a program and give that a try. Doubt it would hurt the converter as the rpm wouldn't drop that much at lock up with this factory converter. Would probably get better et results with a loose converter? If this works at all!

Don't know how much my factory converter is slipping at peak hp but if it drops the rpm even a couple hundred then it would get me higher in speed so the extension isn't so great and perhaps eliminate some of the "falling on it's face" feel I get at shift.

The 1-2 shift extension is fine so no need to touch it. Shifts at 6000, drops to 5000. 2-3 and 3-4 drops much more. Wouldn't touch 4th as the rpm is not near high enough at the lights with this 3.31 gearing.

Larry, I lock my converter in 3rd 1:1 just past the 1/8th mile. With 3.55, a little more HP than you and about 1000# advantage. If I lock it too soon, I seams to fall on it's face. But locking it at the right time is good for about .05

Given your wieght, gearing, and HP disadvantage, I would consider locking it only on 2nd.

The big factory converter is probably couples pretty well near red line. Don't discount the torque multiplication you get from it when it's slipping.

Also consider the wear and tear the WOT lockups put on your converter clutch.

If the factory converter is almost coupled at peak hp then locking it wouldn't do a thing. I have not tried what I am suggesting but when I get a loose converter then it might be worth playing with.

I wouldn't want it to shift at WOT with the converter locked. Would have to program so it would unlock just before shift if that is possible with the SCT.

If you can get your hands on a good scan tool, you can log the speed sensor and engine RPM, then compare to see just how much difference there is. My stuff only does GM cars unfortunately, otherwise I'd set you up...

I have the SCT Pro Package kit so I can log input and output shaft rpm. I'll run a scan just to see how much slippgage the factory converter is slipping at WOT.
