I would really like to install a sprayer on the front of my IC to keep IAT's down to a minimum, especially when hotlapping at the strip. I have considered spraying a small shot into the airstream, but that would require a new tune, and possibly pushing my stock internals past their limits.

I have considered a water sprayer, but prefer N2O to reduce temps to sub-ambient. CO2 sprayers have been considered also.

But, since there seems to be a lot of info showing that anything that is sprayed on the IC has a good chance of making it to the air filter (esp. on my car where the filter is only a foot away from the IC) and being ingested into the engine, I'm leaning towards N2O. The reason being I would prefer to have a few extra molecules of oxygen making it to the engine versus Carbon Dioxide. Yes, I understand that this may lean me out, but I have a wideband that is utilized at the strip to keep an eye on this. Also, my A/F is currently at 11.3-11.4 the whole way across the board so I do have a little to play with. It's not like ALOT would be getting to the filter, and it wouldn't be a big deal if I was spraying it while in the staging lanes with no load on the engine before a run. (Or maybe even with the engine off.)

Anyways, if I were you, I'd see whats cheaper to refill in your area.

I'm not a fan of the N2O intercooler / heat exchanger sprayers to be
honest with you. I just don't see the point. Lower IAT2's are great of course,
but if you're going to run nitrous, you might as well run it the right way
and reap all it's benefits.

I'm installing a 5 gallon ice box in the trunk in the near future to fight off high IAT2's.

I can't use ice since I'm running an air to air intercooler.

And here is why I would prefer not spray into the engine:

Now if I had forged internals then I would definitely want to spray directly into the engine. As it sits though, I'm already on borrowed time and well aware of it. I'm not so much interested in increasing HP as I am in preserving the HP (and the engine) for repeatability reasons. If I make a bunch of passes at the track I don't want to have to worry about icing everything down between runs and wasting time. I want to be able to spray the intercooler and run. Plus ice melts. With the tank, all I have to is walk over to the sales area and get it refilled-then I'm ready to run again.

IMHO, I think spraying "on" the intercooler is a waste of time and nitrous for 1/4 mile runs....

I did not see much gains in the 1/4 mile spraying on an intercooler in a supercharged Viper...

if you just want to lower temps you could get away with spraying a "tiny" shot in the motor....like a 30-50hp shot.....shouldn't require a new tune....

But if you are dead set not on spraying the motor with nitrous I would just buy a more effecient intercooler then....that would give you lower IAT!

BTW...what kind of temps are you seeing now??? What kind of intercooler core/design is it???
