my friend has a 2k GT, and he's looking at buying headers this week. i know the pacesetter headers are about the best bang for the buck for f-body's, so what's the equivelant for the 4.6 2000 GT?

View Full Version : Cheapest, Best Headers. 99camarosupersport 04-08-2006, 02:07 PM my friend has a 2k GT, and he's looking at buying headers this week. i know the pacesetter headers are about the best bang for the buck for f-body's, so what's the equivelant for the 4.6 2000 GT? BWH2003 04-08-2006, 02:10 PM MAC headers are going to be your best bet for the money. Kooks or Stainless Works are the top but they are expensive. 99camarosupersport 04-09-2006, 11:47 PM does mac make a long tube header for the 4.6's? 99camarosupersport 04-09-2006, 11:48 PM are hookers good on the 4.6? K Bo 04-10-2006, 02:28 AM I would say go with Hooker's. I ran them on my '01 nd they were pretty good. I had some minor fitiment issues, but nothing major. I have heard horror stories of MAC. If I was gonna do my '01 all over again, I would have gotten SLP, if I couldn't afford Kooks or SSW. BWH2003 04-10-2006, 04:08 AM if your doing headers on a 4.6 and you want a quality set for a great price nothing beats MAC headers. Yeah MAC makes long tubes for the 4.6 and you can also get their matching prochamber mid pipe. Bolt that up to a borla stinger catback and you will have music to your ears. Shane97Cobra 04-10-2006, 08:31 AM I too have heard too many horror stories about the 4.6L MAC long tubes. When they first came out they were leaving a lot of slag in the tubes. As a result the EGR system was picking some of this slag and recirculating it back through the motor scoring the cylinder walls. I heard stories of a lot of ruined motors due to long tubes. That was 4-5 years ago, so you would hope they corrected this issue. Just scared me enough to not use them. I have ceramic coated BBK's on my car, been very happy w/ them. Have had friends use the hookers and be happy. The Bassani mid-lenghts are another choice that I would highly suggest. They make the power of the long tube set ups, but leave you the room under the car to remove the trans w/o removing the passenger side header. BWH2003 04-10-2006, 01:41 PM Yes MAC had a lot of problems 4-5 years ago but they got their stuff striaght and completely redesigned their headers. This new redesign is what everyone is talking about. I havent heard a bad thing yet about the new headers only positive remarks. Also yes bassani is a great header but he said the cheapest and bassani is $$$. K Bo 04-10-2006, 03:38 PM With the "new" design of the MAC headers, can you drop the transmission without removing the passebger side header? That is why I went with the Hookers. There is no way I would want to do headers TWICE to save maybe $2-300. Saleen91 04-10-2006, 09:00 PM Oh man please don't turn this into the corral with posts having "cheapest" and "best" in the same sentence. Those 2 RARELY ever go together. Bang for buck headers usually include BBK and FRPP. But that's just my $.02 blackfang 04-10-2006, 10:45 PM I run Flowtech which are knockoff Hookers(made by the same people) and are decent for the price and I can still drop my trans with them installed. 99camarosupersport 04-11-2006, 02:59 AM Oh man please don't turn this into the corral with posts having "cheapest" and "best" in the same sentence. Those 2 RARELY ever go together. Bang for buck headers usually include BBK and FRPP. But that's just my $.02 obviously. if i wanted the best i'd say kooks or stainless works. but everyone wants to spend their money differently, and spending 7-8 hundred on headers is not feasible. realize with common sense that i meant " best bang for the buck, aka best "cheap" headers " as opposed to kooks, or stainless works - instead of being an asshole :) thanks. K Bo 04-11-2006, 05:53 AM Has he looked at buying slightly used? 99camarosupersport 04-11-2006, 11:46 PM no sir he hasn't, good advice though never thought of that. :) 99camarosupersport 04-11-2006, 11:47 PM that sounded totally sarcastic but i was actually serious. sorry. K Bo 04-12-2006, 12:12 AM that sounded totally sarcastic but i was actually serious. sorry. It's cool. I figure he might be able to get a set of lightly used better quality headers for the price of new cheap headers. oxfordgt 05-05-2006, 12:46 PM I have a complete mac exhaust system including a set of MAC 1 5/8 LT's and they are great. Great fit, great flow and great price. look at the dyno numbers is it worth a couple hundred more dollars for a fancy name and maybe 5 more hp. Yes. Can you drop your transmission without messing with the headers? Are they stainless? Those are justy a few things I looked at when picking what headers I wanted for my car. 01steeda 05-11-2006, 10:22 PM I have Mac LT's.. no they arent ceramic or stainless or any of that useless garbage. you cant see them and if they corrode it will be years before they need changing. I had zero fitment issues and have had them for a year. I can drop my trans with them on! Dont overlook MAC K Bo 05-12-2006, 05:39 PM I have Mac LT's.. no they arent ceramic or stainless or any of that useless garbage. you cant see them and if they corrode it will be years before they need changing. "uesless garbage" ... lol. |
